Let's Play Dead Space 2, Ep.1 - Broadening the Scope
0The original Dead Space started off with a bang and this one is no different. Immediately, we as Isaac wake up to a disempowering situation where our hands have been bound by a straight jacket. When necromorphs attack, it's really dicey from the jump. But, even in the beginnings of this game, we can see more of what their vision was for the story, visuals, and gameplay elements. No longer are we constrained to a space ship held together by a rapid tram system. Now, the chapters take us through the much larger Sprawl colony. As it says in the title, the scope has been widened. Not only that, there are an order of magnitude more contextual events, like when Isaac has to jump from one tram car to another or when he is caught hanging from said car. These are the kinds of things I'm interested in when talking about difficulty - how does the player deal with novel situations? And in the beginning of Dead Space 2, players are already confronted with a number of them beyond just the "room with a lot of bad guys you have to kill" or the "open space with one big bad guy." I'm excited to play more. Also, the lighting is way better here!
And Isaac talks! That's important! And CONTENT WARNING: there's a lot of references to SUICIDE throughout this game. It's a pretty big part of the plot and it's part of the twist in the last game, which gets referenced a lot here, as well.
