Let's Play Fatal Frame 5 Maiden Of The Black Water Part 1 (Trial Gameplay)
Let's Play Fatal Frame 5 Maiden Of The Black Water Part 1! Happy Halloween all! Lin and I decided to throw down with some scary Fatal Frame 5 Wii U gameplay! We're doing a playthrough / walkthrough of the trial version of the game available to download for free on the Wii U e-shop. Unfortunately a physical release is not yet available.
Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water, titled Zero: The Raven-haired Shrine Maiden) in Japan and Project Zero: Maiden of Black Water in PAL regions, is a survival horror video game developed by Koei Tecmo and published by Nintendo for the Wii U. The fifth main entry in the Fatal Frame / Project Zero series.
As with previous games in the series, players navigate areas filled with hostile ghosts which must be fought by taking photographs using the Camera Obscura, which is directly controlled using the Wii U gamepad. A post-endgame story featuring Ayane, a character from the company's Dead or Alive series, is also available featuring altered gameplay mechanics. The story, which is set on the fictional Hikami Mountain, focuses on three protagonists who are drawn into supernatural events revolving the area, including an ancient ritual to seal away Yomi, a malevolent force corrupting the surrounding spirits that is tied to the fate of the titular shrine maiden Ouse Kurosawa.
Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water puts the player in control of three different characters navigating a number of environments across Hikami Mountain from a third-person perspective, including ruined buildings and dark forests. Characters are able to navigate environments using an interactive map, and can either walk or perform a sprint. During navigation, the characters are confronted by hostile ghosts that attack them and damage them through touch. If a ghost grabs the character, they can either dodge or break free from their grip.
You can also unlock a Zero Suit Samus and Zelda outfit by beating the game, which is pretty cool. My Fatal Frame 5 Maiden of the Black Water review based on our first impressions is somewhere in the middle. My one real issue is that the encounters with ghosts are pretty slow. Kind of takes the scary away to me, but overall it's a nice looking game with an interesting story.
