Lets Play "Freelancer" Chris Roberts Star Citizen's Progenitor Game Ep.23
In this "Lets Play" series I will only be following the main campaign and taking side missions when I need to get cash to level up to progress. The main campaign doesn't have you visit every system or faction so this is just the surface of the game. If you play it yourself take the time out to explore the systems in between missions to really engross yourself in the world. I will simply be playing through the main story for the sake of brevity.
Freelancer was released in 2003 developed by Digital Anvil and produced by Microsoft Game Studios. It is a space flight simulation game with an active world and enjoyable story line. In the game you play as Edison Trent, though most people simply refer to you as Trent or Freelancer, in a distant part of the galaxy colonized by humans. The events in Freelancer take place 800 years after those in the video game "Starlancer" released in 2000.
"The solar system was engulfed in a civil war, fought between the Western Alliance and the Eastern Coalition. Facing defeat, the Alliance placed its people in stasis and sent them to the Sirius system, where they settled and transformed the surrounding space (the Sirius sector) into a region of political intrigue and opportunity. The rule of the sector is mostly split among four houses, each named after the sleeper ship that brought them to the system. Each house exhibits the culture of its terrestrial ancestor: Liberty of 1920s United States, Bretonia of Victorian era United Kingdom, Kusari of Shogunate era Japan, and Rheinland of Second Industrial Revolution Germany."
Chris Roberts baby before he started "Star Citizen", and a sequel to 2000's "Starlancer" game. Here we can see his first attempt at a living space sim universe.
A lot of things were promised but not everything was delivered with the Freelancer experience, whilst I do enjoy it as you get deeper into the game you discover a lot of unimplemented game systems.
