Tifa is super busy at work, so Jack gets to play a Mega Man-like game that's been requested for a while.
Gravity Circuit is the Mega Man game we deserved, but Capcom never made. Thankfully, Domesticated Ant Games - an indie studio from Finland so fresh, they still barely have a homepage when this video goes live - stepped up and delivered.
Many years ago, the mysterious structure known as The Ark was unearthed. The evil Virus Army started showing up shortly after and attacked the City. Led by a group of heroes known as the Circuits, the people fought back. As the fighting raged on, the Circuits were defeated...
Or so everyone thought, because suddenly one of them - Gravity Circuit - reappears.
After the cool little intro to set the stage, you take control of Gravity Circuit. Unlike the Blue Bomber, he doesn't have an arm cannon. Instead, you punch, kick, grab and throw your enemies as you smash through each stage. You also get to run as much as you want - instead of mashing dash - and you are equipped with a nifty hookshot. Attack with it, pull things to you, swing across the ceiling - go nuts.
Taking some inspiration from the Smash Bros. series, Gravity Circuit is also able to perform special moves by pressing a direction and the button for it.
Instead of unlocking the boss's weapons, you unlock more special moves and upgrade chips for you to mix and match, as well as new coats of paint, which also come with abilities. Want to make your slides do damage, or prefer maxing out the damage you deal with your fists? How about double jumping? You can do all of that. Or don't and challenge yourself.
The music's great, the game looks nice and the story flows nicely without ever interrupting gameplay. No Alia to keep talking your ear off here.
Pair all of this with perfectly tight and responsive controls and challenging, but super fair gameplay and you have got one hell of a game on your hands.
