Seemingly seldom remembered or mentioned in the history of Half-Life, Half-Life: Decay sees us return to the Black Mesa Research Facility for another story about the Black Mesa Incident. Unlike previous Half-Life expansions, Decay is a co-op game that sees you control two characters against the forces of Xen and the HECU.

In the depths of Black Mesa, Doctors Gina Cross and Colette Green work on preparations for another Anomalous Materials experiment with Doctors Keller and Rosenberg. Little did they know that their work is part of a much larger plan that will result in a devastating resonance cascade that will change the fate of Black Mesa and the Earth.

Half-Life: Decay was released in 2001 as an expansion for the PlayStation 2 version of Half-Life. It was developed by Gearbox Software in conjunction with Valve and published by Sierra. Decay was later unofficially ported to PC by a Ukrainian fan team and released in 2008. Decay is unique in the Half-Life franchise as it is a co-op game that was playable as couch co-op on the PS2 and online on the PC port.

Half-Life: Decay returns you to the Black Mesa Research Facility ahead of the Black Mesa Incident. Dr. Gina Cross and Dr. Colette Green are part of the Anomalous Materials team helping preparations for an experiment involving a Xen crystal. When that experiment causes a resonance cascade resulting in an alien invasion, Dr. Cross and Dr. Green work with senior Black Mesa scientists Dr. Keller and Dr. Rosenberg to help fix the situation.
