Game published 2000 by 3DO (GOG.com compilation released 2011).
Tarnum (with other heroes following) finally finds the Fiery Fields marking the heart of the Fire Lord's domain. He must have already defeated the bulk of the Fire Lord's troops in combat with wandering Fire heroes, as the Fire castle is only lightly garrisoned. Capturing that castle ends the scenario, and the campaign. :)
The concluding cutscene explains that Tarnum destroyed all the Confluxes, as the knowledge of Elemental magic was too dangerous to our world. Thereafter, Tarnum is said to have resumed life as a Barbarian (which implies that the 2 "DLC campaigns" - The World Tree and The Fiery Moon - should come next, if one is playing through the HC campaigns in story order).
I'll be returning to SSI's Gold Box series next, however, with "Secret of the Silver Blades." (I'm also taking suggestions for something short & fairly self-contained to LP for a "200th subscriber special" - although the final decision on which game I try for that will be mine.)
