Ikaruga is one of the most finely polished and one of the most intense shoot em ups (aka bullet hell, shmup, shooter, vertical shooter, bullet eater, etc) ever made. It is the spiritual successor to Treasure's (Bangai-O, Alien Soldier, Gunstar Heroes, Sin and Punishment) Radiant Silvergun. Despite being short it is intensely difficult and endlessly replayable. The game features a unique polarity shifting mechanic that allows the player to shift between black and white to absorb bullets of the same color and deal 2x damage to enemies of the opposite color.
