King's Quest V - Absence Makes the Heart Go Yonder (1990)

After King's Quest 1, this is probably the most ground breaking Adventure Game of all time and it set the standard for all future Adventure games. This is the first VGA point and click Adventure Game, and also the first CDROM adventure game with a fully voice acted cast. Yes, the "actors" were really just programmers that worked on the game, but they do a decent enough job, though the voices are quite amusing at times.

I've beaten this game years ago, but usual I'm playing through with my nieces and nephews, who haven't played it yet to make for a fresh experience.

King Graham's castle has been captured by an evil wizard named Mordack! An owl named Cedric offers to help. He takes him to his friend, the good wizard Crispin in the land of Serenia. Crispin tells him to journey across the Eastern Mountains and cross the sea to an small island with Mordack's castle. He gives Graham the ability to talk to animals, and a wand that doesn't seem to work, but believes that it may come in handy against Mordack.

Unfortunately the path across the mountains is blocked off by a POISonous snake. So Graham visits the village in Serenia, but can only afford a custard pie. He visits an inn, and promptly gets rubbed out by the thieves who own it. So then we journey into the desert where Graham promptly dies of thirst. Not a promising start, but thanks to the save and restore feature we should be able to make more progress next time.
