Maize gameplay is a first-person adventure game about what happens when two scientists misinterpret a memo from the US Government and create sentient corn. And that last sentence is pretty much the least ridiculous thing about the game.
Maize Gameplay revolves around Exploring an abandoned farm and a not-so-abandoned underground research facility as you uncover the mysteries around Maize, and possibly learn a bit about yourself along the way. Or maybe not. With a colourful cast of characters, fun puzzle driven gameplay, and an absolutely absurd world, Maize offers up a unique experience that keeps the surprises coming. Seriously, they’re everywhere.

Maize has received many positive reviews so far (potential spoilers ahead) One maize reviewer (written by Jake Yanik) said:
"Let’s get it out of the way at the top that, yes, Maize is a game about sentient corn, and yes, that’s an absurd premise for a game. Can we also agree that it’s something that we very much need right now? In a world filled with realistic games and rich RPGs, sometimes it’s nice to just suspend some disbelief and have fun with a silly premise for a while which Maize delivers fantastically. Maize is one such game, and it was a refreshing break from the serious—and an important one at that."
"What I really appreciate most of all about Maize, though, is not its puzzles, its characters, or even its written story, but instead its implied story. The details in the world are wonderful, in a very over-the-top sort of way, and the accompanying background music is perfectly fitting for the them. It really does feel like playing through a kid’s cartoon. Dialogue points are simple enough for younglings to appreciate, yet there’s enough going on that even at thirty years old, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Kids will see a silly picture of Ted as a horse, being triumphantly ridden by Bob; adults will appreciate the significance of it being the Napoleonic painting Crossing The Alps. There’s even a transition from one part of the facility to the next that has no purpose to its layout—unless you remember the original Deus Ex and can place it from the free clinic in Hell’s Kitchen, all punctuated by similar cyperpunkian music. It’s one of the most subtle and well-executed homages I’ve ever seen in a game. Maize is Fantastic."
"Critically, though, it shows that we can still have a game with cross-generational appeal without simply pandering. I can’t think of many (if any) games that do that as well as Maize. Most importantly, though, it reminds us that “fun” and “rewarding” can still coexist, even in a game that I would share with my young nephew."

"I do have a couple technical complaints: you have to go to .ini files to disable motion blur and there isn’t a way I’ve seen so far to modify FOV or head bobbing so if you get easily motion sick you might need to just keep an eye on this and hope those things are patched in. I also experienced some long loading times in some sections, and severe frame drops at points. I was running the game at Ultra with specs that probably only garnered Medium or High presets and while the drops were to single digits they were very infrequent, happening only a couple times in my three hours of playtime.
"I love Maize, and the only thing stopping me giving it anything higher are those options that should not be optional on PC these days. Looking past that though, this is clearly a project of passion that constantly keeps turning the crazy up from the very beginning to reach the perfect conclusion. I enjoyed every minute I had with it and I cannot recommend it enough, though this needs to be in your library if you like A Bit of Fry and Laurie, Chicken Run or The Stanley Parable."

In my personal opinion, maize is a game made out of passion, and though it falls short in some areas, Maize delivers beautifully on the story and overall beauty!
