Space bounty hunter Samus Aran returns to duty in Metroid II: Return of Samus. This time, instead of defeating space pirates, she is tasked with destroying all the metroids on their home planet of SR3888. The metroids, deemed a threat by the Galaxy Federation, wiped out a research team exploring the planet as well as the rescue squad sent to answer the scientists’ SOS. With their own soldiers unable to stand up to the metroid threat, the Galaxy Federation sends in Samus who has successfully dealt with metroids before during her fight against the space pirates and Mother Brain on planet Zebes.
In this episode, Samus clears out the remaining metroids on the planet, which mainly consist of the final evolution, the omega metroid. Like the Zeta before it, this floating fiend is armored from below and despite its size, is quite an agile foe. But it is not the largest metroid. Turns out there is a queen metroid, who has just hatched a new brood of eight larva metroids. Although Samus has experience with larva metroids from her mission on Planet Zebes, does she have what it takes to take out the powerful queen?
Along the way, Samus collects the ice beam and defeats three omega metroids, eight larva metroids, and one metroid queen.
