In this Let's Play video, you will see me play Monarchy. This game is an action roguelike base building (kingdom building) game with some tower defense combat mechanics. You control a main hero (King or Queen) that moves along a 2D side scrolling land. You defend your kingdom/city and gain money/loot from various sources (such as killing critters, chopping trees, trader, farming) and killing bandits. You spend money to update your kingdom and hire workers and fighters. The money is spent also on performing or assigning tasks. This game plays very similar to "Kingdom: Classic", "Kingdom Two Crowns", "Sons of Valhalla", "Ratropolis, and "Liftlands". The Goal is to get rid of the Bandits on the sides of the land scenario you start on. There are a total of 4 different scenarios (Including the Introduction) to play on. The game loop seems pretty straight forward. It uses controller like actions. You can move with LEFT and RIGHT arrows or (A and D keys), UP arrow (W key) rotates through the building choices, DOWN arrow (S key) drops coins, or holding DOWN fills the coin slots for upgrades or giving actions/orders. Gather beggars by giving dropping a coin on them and they'll become a worker. Expand your kingdom by clearing out trees and build towers. Upgrade your main tent (base) to get more building structures to place down. Defend against invading bandits. Hire builders or Archers by paying coins to their respective tent and workers without jobs will pick up the tools. I learned from the developers that apparently you can get an archer to follow you if you toss coin that lands on top of them. What's different about this game is that you can get an archer to follow you to hunt animals and protect you. There is a Cave exploration system. If you enjoy any of the games I mentioned earlier, definitely give Monarchy a try.
