Ninja Gaiden is a notoriously difficult platformer published by Tecmo. It was first released in North America in 1989, but came out in Japan a few months earlier in 1988 (as Ninja Ryūkenden) and in Europe in 1991 (as Shadow Warriors). While based on an arcade beat-'em-up with the same name, the two have very little in common.
