Let's Play Saga Frontier Remastered Episode 18: Shin Megami Tensei 5... or something
1I mean... we're half human half not quite demon and we're running around with a bunch of monsters that we either beat in battle or performed some task to earn their trust, or were just a friend of a friend. Totally Shin Megami Tensei right?
Anyways jokes aside in this episode we explore the optional dungeon of the northeast Shingrow Ruins... ok it's actually required for Red's story but that's all. I decided to spend this episode fighting with the monster party members, yes we will get one more but we'll get to that a few episodes from now.
Shingrow ruins has some nice goodies such as the sanctuary stone and just decent equipment overall but it's also home to a couple of boss fights. The Gaea Toad which is the full powered version of those things we saw back in the swamp, the Yellow Fighters which ambush you by laying you down with status effects and buffing their allies, though the ambush kinda flops here since the remaster makes it clear the doors are false, to huge slime which is stronger than the one in tanzer but more straight forward. Instead of having to cut a path to the rune you simply have to take out the minions to damage the center one. Once it goes does the rest will fall shortly after.
Then there is the twin Valkyries which can be deceptively difficult they each have a fair amount of HP and even though it isn't shown they have the deflect ability so they can stop your physical attacks right in their tracks and they do some solid damage. Honestly probably the most challenging boss in this dungeon.
Now you may be wondering what about the other optional dungeons and their bosses? Well... we'll get to them but Shingrow is one of the easier places for midgame and I want to save the other optional dungeons for after we become able to get our final party members since some of the optional dungeon will have additional story scenes if we wait and the other dungeons have boss fights I want to save for later.
On a different note monsters are fucking complicated.
