Characters who have left their respective armies (or that army has fallen) can be picked up by AI factions. Mima starts out in that available pool of characters for any faction to randomly pickup.
Komachi is pretty annoying to deal with. Her special ability has a chance to cause Instant Death which is devastating in a game like this (could even cause an instant game over if you happen to lose Reimu or Marisa). Kill her fast and hope she never succeeds in that attack.
