Let's play SLIPSTREAM
2Slipstream has been developed by Sandro Luiz de Paula, aka ansdor, a solo developer from Brazil who wanted to recreate the spirit of the classic racing games from 80s and 90s. Back in 2014 he embarked on the adventure of learning how to program (he is originally an artist) to recreate the same sprite scaling technique from games like the Out Run series building his own custom game engine, and also to include features like drifting, time rewind, drafting/slipstream (first seen in Mario Kart 64).
More information about the game: Slipstream has been out on Steam since 2018, receiving continuous content and feature updates, achieving a great reception from players (90% positive of 660+ reviews). BlitWorks Games discovered it and totally loved it, that is why they decided to port and publish it on consoles.
I personally think it will be one of the best retro racing games on consoles, together with the likes of Horizon Chase Turbo. The combination of the colorful visuals (mixing pre-rendered graphics and pixel art) with a soundtrack that draws from synth pop and jazz fusion influences by Stefan Moser, sets the tone for a race across a variety of exotic locations from all around the world, including cities, deserts, forests, mountains and beaches. Drifting, rewinding and slipstreaming mechanics add depth to the driving gameplay, and the result is a strategic, challenging and exciting experience.

20 Different tracks: Set on a variety of exotic locations all around the world... and beyond.
5 Playable cars: Inspired by classic models from the 80s and 90s.
Accessibility Options: There are 3 difficulty levels to choose from, some visual effects can be turned off and, most importantly, the game speed can be reduced up to 50%, giving players more time to react, but keeping the game physics exactly the same.
6 Game modes: Grand Tour, Cannon Ball, Grand Prix, Single Race, Time Trial and Battle Royale.
