Join me, if you will, in the brave new world of Space, a text-based roleplaying and simulation game by Steven W. Pederson and Sherwin A. Steffin, published by Edu-Ware in 1979 for the Apple II.
The game's scenarios range widely, omitting details you might expect, and leave a lot of room for contemplation of the fear and wonder of the situation and the workings of its oblique hidden systems.
A gameplay video for Space really needs time to explore what it does and how it feels. I've settled on a slow, measured presentation and only then skimmed the surface of each of its facets. Some of those facets might *only* be superficial, though - that's part of the mystery.
There is little sound in the game so I briefly contemplated adding a soundtrack but concluded that the silence is integral. In many respects, so is the hardware that it originally ran on: I've tried to conjure up associated sensations with some additional foley, sourced from the below, and a gentle, companionable hum.
