StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm is the first expansion pack for StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty. It was developed and published by Blizzard Entertainment, and first released on March 13, 2013 for Windows and Mac.
The expansion pack continues the story of the first game, and takes place after the victory of Jim Raynor and Valerian Mengsk over the Zerg Swarm. The player takes the role of a Sarah Kerrigan, now having partially regained her humanity.
The game focuses on the Zerg race - which receives two new units - and the plot on Kerrigan's attempt to rebuild the Swarm and take down Arcturus Mengsk, the emperor of the Terran Dominion.
Over the course of the campaign, the player can upgrade Kerrigan's abilities, apply temporary upgrades to Zerg units, and gain access to strains, variants of Zerg units with special abilities.
StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm received positive reviews, and sold more than a million copies in the first 48 hours of its release.
