Tempest Rising is a real-time strategy game developed by Slipgate Ironworks and 2B Games. It was first published 3D Realms and Knights Peak on April 17, 2025 for Windows.
The game is set in 1997 in a world in which the Cuban Missile Crisis escalated, and a global nuclear exchange occurred. These events led to the rise of the Global Defense Force and the Tempest Dynasty. The factions fight for control of the globe and a the Tempest, a mysterious plant-like energy source that thrives in irradiated zones.
Tempest Rising follows the Westwood school of real-time strategy. There is only one resource, the Tempest, which can be harvested and turned into credits, structures are placed directly once built from a side menu, and upgrades are limited. However, the game does have a pop cap (though no pop structures) and multiple production queues for one type of unit.
The game was met with positive reviews from fan and critics. The release version features two eleven-mission campaigns for the GDF and the Tempest Dynasty. A campaign for a third faction, the Veti, is planned for the future.
