Let's Play The Elder Scrolls Arena Blind - Part 61 - Shiny Objects and the Things That Guard Them
We continue our adventure onto floor 2 of Dagoth-Ur in our hunt for the eighth and final piece of the Staff of Chaos. We quickly discover that this part is going to be yet another key hunt, oh joy. Yet even that can't discourage me, we are so close to the end!
Pretty much, this part features my blunderings on the second floor to find five keys in order to reach the third floor. The only difficult part is that the dungeon is filled with the toughest of foes, making it quite the struggle to make it through the level. Rest areas are pretty uncommon, being only found as platforms for the keys, which means they are heavily guarded.
The first key, the Ruby Key, is found pretty close to the locked doors in a giant area filled with Lava and raised platforms. We also get an Iron Golem in the middle of the whole thing, which luckily isn't the greatest of threats to me.
The second key, the Sapphire Key, takes a lot longer period to find. I actually manage to find two other keys before we even get to the area with the key. It is being guarded by a Fire Daemon around a pool of lava with some pointless routes nearby.
The Crystal Key, the third key, is actually the second key we find. Located to the extreme south, it is guarded by a sole Medusa around another pool of Lava. Due to the fact that we can easily hit it over the Lava without the Medusa reaching us with attacks that can injure us, it is simpler to get the key than it is to clear the caged rooms nearby with the Homuncului.
The Amethyst Key is found after the Crystal but before the Sapphire. This one causes me a bit of trouble since we are in a tight corridor that makes for an easy shot for the Vampire. Even after clearing that out, we have plenty of nearby areas filled with Ghosts and Wraiths.
The final key, the Diamond Key, is guarded by something we have never seen before... even if I kept saying its name a bunch since I often confused it with a Wraith. The Lich makes its first appearance here, surprisingly late in the game, at a point where I doubted we would see any new monsters. This monster is so deadly that it never spawns when resting, instead it is reserved for end-game punishment due to how powerful it is. Somehow, I manage to get extremely lucky here, the Lich for some reason fails to attack me when I start hitting it over and over. This means that I get a false sense of how dangerous these things really are...
In any event, we eventually gather all the keys and make it past all the locked doors. The staircase to the third floor is guarded by things far worse. No, the Stone Golems are pretty painful, but I am talking about the worst monster in the game. Insufficient Base Memory! We end this part with me preparing to take on this foul beast.
