Scanners are great as it allows you to scan Mods and Mutagens before using them. The Marine is starting things off strong by getting that and starting with so many wonderful weapons.

The assault rifle fires five shots at a time. Great for big things, inefficient for small things as it wastes all five shots. The blade is weakest of the Blade types weapons but it is better than a knife and starting with it allows the marine to get better with it over time.
