This is.... not the clever puzzle the devs might have thought it was. It's literally just trying out different combinations until a thing happens. I imagine there's supposed to be clues in the dialogue, but it feels like they've failed the balance between being so obtuse that it feels random and being so transparent that you don't feel clever on solving things.
