Let's Play Weird And Unfortunate Things Are Happening - 17 - Flowering Snakes
We continue to fight our way through Uratheul, and manage to find a use for some bones. Will there be a payoff for that spookity face? Maybe definitely probably yes.
The Snake Zone is honestly a little interesting purely because it's a return to the random encounter mechanic that we last saw in... episode 12? It's been a while since I've been randomly and rudely interrupted by enemies. Feels a little nostalgic, honestly.
I know I mention this, but I'd like to emphasize that we've hit the point in all JRPGs where fights kinda blend together. Outside of boss fights, our approach essentially boils down to "Slap potent buffs onto Alicia and Lamar, let Miriam hose down the opposing team with mass damage/debuffs, and Dottie is here too". There's a reason I've gone from "yeah, I'll do all the fights" to "I'm going to avoid most fights".
Speaking of... Dottie is a bit of a weird character, mechanically speaking, since she doesn't really excel at anything in particular (in comparison to Alicia's tankiness, Miriam's raw offense, or Lamar's healing/protection). In hindsight, I suspect I should've been using her chess pieces to buff the party, but that hasn't ever felt needed. I feel like I have a history of using knife-wielding little girls who are mostly useful for their spellcasting incorrectly in JRPGs, though, so that's not terribly surprising.
