Magically, the chests that have served as barricades are now gone, and we have a healing spot close to the start of the last area. Not overly close, as there's still a trip involved, but close enough to not make this a total grind fest to arrive at the final battle in top shape.

Speaking of top shape, I did forget to do something, but I remember before the end. Still annoying.
