0Railroad plots are rather common in video games, and Japanese RPGs particularly have a bad reputation for it. This is part of the limit of the medium. You can't predict what every player is going to want to do and you can only plan for the things you think of. More than that, the less linear you make the plot, the more work needs to be done on writing which stretches the work load even thinner. The result is that the more linear games tend to have a stronger, more coherent story with more depth and the less linear games tend to have a shallower storyline. There are differences, of course, Agarest here is sort of a pale comparison to most Final Fantasy games especially the way it tries to do so many different things.
