I wasn't really that surprised that the "god" wasn't really a god, but I should have expected it to be something like Borgnine. It does have that sort of echoing voice anime tends to give characters that are incredibly monstrous. I usually take it as a sort of telepathy because they usually lack the necessary anatomy to actually speak.
