Let's Quietly Play: Session
Just a very brief little bit of footage from the rather good Session, a project to revitalize the seemingly abandoned Skate franchise with a little more focus on the 'sim' side of things to really capture the feeling of urban skating.
The controls are perhaps the biggest and most challenging aspect of this new concept - the left stick controls your left leg, the right stick controls your right. To ollie, you hold down with your left foot, then flick up with your right, as you would in real life. If you're riding switch (the other way round) those controls reverse...unless you pick the simpler control option.
Oh, and you steer with the trigger buttons.
Although at first a bit unintuitive, one this clicks with your muscle memory, it feels surprisingly natural and fun to use. Having to actually line up your runs and not haphazardly spam a button in mid-air requires a lot more patience, but the satisfaction of landing a heelflip-to rail-to kickflip-to manual is second to none.
