Overwatch is a new universe from the fine folks at Blizzard. Yes, the same people responsible for crafting worlds like Starcraft, Diablo and the Warcraft series are now dipping their toes into the shooter pool. Can they pull it off?

My answer to that will be yes. Overwatch has had tons of hype surrounding it for the better part of a year. It received even further renown when only a limited set of people gained access to the closed betas starting such memes as Onlywatch and Saltywatch. Excitement for the game built as there were 2 slightly more open beta weekends allowing people to get a taste of the characters and the maps. OW is coming to us as a purchased game, not free to play. Blizzard stated they didn't want to gate characters because all of them need to be accessible at any time. Person A only having unlocked 3 heroes while the team desperately needs a hero that person doesn't have isn't what they wanted to see happen. After the first open weekend in 2015, they added items for the heroes like sprays, voice lines and POTG intros. The game is tremendous fun and really doesn't have much in the way of shortcomings. It can bug out every now and then with random DCes or it flopping to windowed mode for some reason but Blizzard seems to get on any instability issues fairly quickly. While OW is great, it does have some competition including the newly released Battleborn and the upcoming Paladins. OW will likely beat Paladins to a pulp but BB having a story mode might drag some people away from OW. Likely Overwatch will have a firmer grip on any competitive scene when compared to all the others.
