‘Let’s Talk About …’ is a new BioSolveIT workshop series focused on the fundamentals of medicinal chemistry and computer-aided drug discovery. Designed for beginners, intermediates, and experts alike, it delves into the building blocks of modern small molecule design and places these individual perspectives into a broader context.

In our first workshop, we will focus on the small gears of bioactive compounds: functional groups and their bioisosteres.

We will discuss the most commonly used functionalities in medicinal chemistry, exploring their properties and three-dimensional geometry, both of which play a key role in assessing protein-ligand complexes. Additionally, we will examine functional alternatives (bioisosteres) for these groups and what to keep in mind when exploiting them.

Speaker: Dr. Alexander Neumann, BioSolveIT, Germany
