Let's Torture Ace With - Asterix atGR - Blind Run - 08 - Stupid boss is stupid.
13We reach another boss.. and it's.. pathetic. Unfortunately you can't jump (!?) during the battle, so... I died, since it's a bit hard to dodge a missed hits when you can't jump. Still it's easy. And that one roman just didn't want to give up, despite fifty or so rocks dropping on his head... Or Asterix is a very bad shot.
As it turns out, I didn't record enough footage to fill a ten minute video... so i'll try to get that additional recording session... *looks around* ... now possibly.. XD
So as a bit of filler... how about I briefly show you some good Asterix games?
I might LP some of these in the future.
Descriptions:
Asterix: NES
Decent platformer, with an excellent soundtrack.
Probably the easiest Asterix game out there, altough thats not saying much.
There was also a GB port.
You hear the Overworld theme alot though, and theres only one (easy) boss.
Don't own a copy. I also don't own a NES. That doesn't help.
Asterix: Master System
This is probably my favourite Master System game! Not kidding! It may not look it, but it's a fun game. One of the best features is that both Asterix and Obelix get DIFFERENT levels that are designed for their abilities. It... seems like obvious thing to do, but so few developers do it, it's practically a a stroke of genius.
There are a few boss battles in the game, but a couple get repeated, also shame about the boss music.
It's got a good mix of difficulty... unfortunately like Great Rescue, it's difficulty curve is all over the place.
Still a good game. Never gets frustrating, and that suits me down to the ground.
The game's long, the lack of a save feature means I haven't beaten it.
Asterix: And the Secret Mission:
A direct sequel to the above game, it sports some very nice graphics for the Master System and some pretty decent music to!
The running mechanic takes a while to get used to, and the controls are a little loose. But it's not bad. Fairly hard. Haven't beaten it yet.
Brought a copy of this, alongside Asterix - Master System for a quid. Good perchase. :D
Asterix: SNES
A remixed version of the NES game, sporting updated graphics, new, more difficult level design, and is generally a larger... harder.. game.
It also replaced the soundtrack. It takes a while to get used to, but.. the celtic style music grows on you.
It's difficulty ramps up at World 2, and by the Egyptian level, I have usually run out of continues. I've yet to see the ending.
Asterix: Arcade

One of the best Asterix games period. This is a blast 2-Player, and I expect nothing less of a Konami beat em up. It's also very difficult. (I sense a pattern emerging here.)
Also, kSorian, if you're reading this, i'd like to take you up on that offer to re-record that netplay of this.
For obvious reasons, I don't own a copy of this. It's a shame it never got a home console port.

Asterix and Obelix: SNES
Direct sequel to the NES and SNES games, Obelix seems to get the starring role in this game.. probably because he wasn't playable in this game's prequel. He's actually the default character!
It's also rock hard.... anyone else noticing a pattern here?
I might pick up a copy, if I can find one.
Asterix: And the Power of the Gods:
... a.. direct sequel to Great Rescue? Odd but true. At least Dogmatix appears this time.
All the game's music is classical music... but badly done.
It's also frustratingly difficult, despite having a huge health bar, about half the things in the game can kill you in a hit.
Thanks developers. I haven't seen past the first world of this game either, but I haven't owned a copy for very long, so I can't say i've played it very much. That and my Megadrive controller is broken.
I suppose I COULD play it via emulation, but meh.
Asterix and the Magic Couldron: ZX Spectrum
.... I don't think i've gotten past the first ENEMY in this game, let alone the first level!
Not that i've played it in years. I would try emulation but the game refuses to run. T_T
My only memories of this are from when I was four, so I can't really give judgement on this. I do seem to remember that power ups could kill you if you did the wrong thing.
Spectrum games were mean like that.
Asterix Collection: GBA
Contains both Asterix and Obelix and a new Beat Em in style of the arcade, based off the film version of Asterix and Cleopatra.
Unfortunately it's one of those really repetive beat em ups that thinks it's a good idea to make one level last half an hour. Gets boring quickly. I think there was bosses, honestly can't remember. Just playing this for an hour put me off.
The XXL series:
Supposed to be decent. Haven't played them yet. Might try and get a copy of the Gamecube versions.
