The best detective in down has been murdered, and you've got to figure out the who, what, where, when, and why. You've got one week, and a long list of suspects. Or, you know, don't. You could just get really good at the saxophone, rebuild your relationship with your child, find love, or go totally rogue. The choice(s) are yours to make!
There is a whole lot to love about this game. Even though in my playthrough, I sort of lost all my leads, there was still a lot I could mess around and uncover. I can tell there is a complex story underpinning all the silliness, but I love that the option to just... not is right there. This game is a love letter to old-school adventure games, with a healthy dose of choose-your-own-adventure RPG books that love to punish you thrown in. You set your stats, and set about your day, burning precious minutes, money, and resources to figure out what's going on around town, or do almost anything else. I totally beefed it in this first run-through, and I'm not even mad. This game is short enough to get through a loop and try again that as you do it over and over, you can slowly uncover what's really going on. You can also explore a myriad of other opportunities that have nothing to do with the case, and that's just as valid a loop.
The writing's cute, the visual design is perfect for what it's going for, and the choices are many. If you want a fun adventure game with legitimate replay value: absolutely check out Sergeant Squidley: Space Cop!
