It appears (Through Wolfy Senses) that we need the other statue, the little viking statues by the way are invincible and can be used as weights to weigh down switches. You can use Pots too, but the little viking statues are better.

Spiders! BIG ONES! Those are Young Ghomas, they have no special abilities, just keep stabbing them.
Also there are Lizalfos/Dynalfos! Similar to before but they get smarter and more armored.
And Armos! These guys are invincible except for this crystal on their back, hit that and it'll go down.
