Links Awakening Dungeon Walkthrough: Bottle Grotto
On to number 2. Bigger than the first, but its actually much more linear. (due to the fact that most of the rooms are arranged in straight lines) It requires a bit of backtracking, mostly at the beginning, if you want to get everything though.
Dont mind that the video seems to skip a bit at times. It was literally a few seconds over the Youtube limit, so I had to cut a few from some earlier moments.
Game Mechanics:
-Crystal Switches are introduced here. They're the blue coloured orbs that raise/lower the blue coloured blocks. The puzzles involving them don't get too involved here, but the will later. The annoying thing is that they use a one-colour scheme, which makes it hard to tell if they're up or down if they're not in the same room as the switch.
-GET the Stone Beak or prepare to be really confused later on. Yes, I really meant that.
Enemies:
-The standard enemies from Tail Cave are back, with the addition of Shrouded Stalfos, which are even weaker than normal Stalfos since they cant jump.
-Shy Guys (yes, another Mario cameo) also appear here. They mirror your movements (if you go right theyll go left, for example) and are only vulnerable from behind. My preferred method for dealing with them is to turn so Links back is facing them, then walk towards them while charging the spin attack. Release it when you get close enough.
-The second new enemies are the Pols Voice (I have absolutely no idea how to pluralise that) Fans of the series will know them well; their weakness seems to change with each game. In this one, any thrown object will take them out. There are other methods too, but you have no access to them at this point.
New Item:
The Power Bracelet allows Link to lift and throw objects, mainly pots. Itll be crucial in every dungeon from now on. Unfortunately, that annoying message that occurs when you attempt to lift something without it will NOT go away, so be prepared for some frustration in that department. (this, like several other things, was fixed in Oracle of Seasons and Ages)
The item has appeared in most 2D Zelda games in some form or another. More recently, it appeared in Wind Waker, where it was an automatic effect rather than an equipable item. (I personally prefer it working this way, saves the hassle of going to the menu every time you want to pick up something)
Boss:
The general consensus is that this an unusually tough boss for such an early point in the game. Like he points out, the Bottle Genie is immune to damage while his bottle is intact. In order to break it, youll need to throw it at the wall with the Power Bracelet 3 times. Before you can do this, you first have to dodge the Genies barrage of flames, just keep moving and dont stop until he finishes the attack.
When the bottle breaks, the battle is far from over. Hell now start warping around the room, throwing a single fireball when he appears. Now you can attack him with the sword. I highly recommend spin attacks so as to finish off this incredibly annoying boss quickly.
Because this can be tough with only 4 hearts, getting a potion is recommended. You can access Crazy Tracys Health Spa after getting the Power Bracelet. Its located just a little south east of this dungeon.
