NOTE! you need to opt into beta as well (right click on portal2 in steam and properties and betas)
current issues. Announcer and Wheatley voices do not work and some ATI users cant even run the game

If you already downloaded Portal 2, there is one part of the update process which unfortunately cannot be completed automatically and you must do manually:
navigate to the bin/ directory under your Portal 2 directory (e.g. ~/.local/share/Steam/SteamApps/common/Portal 2/bin
rename libmiles.so to libMiles.so
