Alright, I'm just gonna shoot from the hip here -- there's very little difference in performance, and I lean to the Open Source side, so I'm more a fan of OpenJDK. This video here shows installing Minecraft, Technic Launcher, and Feed the Beast, going back and forth between the two "javas" (jawas?). On Linux. x64 bit. No problems. So, don't sweat it.
(p.s. the quality still isn't the greatest on this -- playing around with codecs and kdenlive still... I'm learning!)
