What's New in Linux Mint 20.2
Based on Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS (Focal Fossa) and powered by the Linux 5.4 LTS kernel series with long-term support, the Linux Mint 20.2 “Uma” comes with the latest Cinnamon 5.0 desktop environment in the main edition, as well as the Xfce 4.16 and MATE 1.24 desktop environments in Xfce and MATE editions.
Yes. Linux Mint 20.2 with Cinnamon, MATE and Xfce desktop options. The flagship of Linux Mint 20.2 edition with its Cinnamon desktop is now version 5.0.
Cinnamon 5.0 has a new search feature for its Nemo file manager, memory leak fixes, better handling of updates around Spices, and a wide variety of other mostly minor updates.
A new application has been included in the Cinnamon and MATE editions called Bulky (aka File Renamer), which can be used to rename files in bulk.
Also, this release features Sticky Notes as a replacement for GNote to handle your notes.
Linux Mint 20.2 also features updates for its XApps programs, Warpinator continues to be improved (including a new Android app) for this utility for transferring Linux Mint files over local networks.
Other noteworthy changes include better support for HP printers and scanners, support for .svgz images in the default image viewer, support for anonymous/private browsing in the WebApp manager, new highlighting options in the default text editor, and updated artwork.
Lastly, the Linux Mint 20.2 release brings the new notification feature explained by the Linux Mint team a few months ago, which is just here to help you keep your Linux Mint installations up to date at all times.
According to Linux Mint developers:
“In Linux Mint 20.2, Update Manager is now able to remember how long each update has been available, how many days the computer has been ON during that time, and evaluate whether or not a notification would be welcome to remind you of updates available.”
