Little tiny leaf shaking on a tree

She’s stronger than me, crunchy and brown

She’s above the street watching us walk
Hurrying and scurrying big human talk
She probably wonders why we’re so fraught
The state of the world, she takes a snap shot

Her ancestors
And my ancestors
I think they used to be friends
At the very least
They used to communicate
Around the light that bends

I just noticed another tiny leaf
A little ways off from the first
It’s a cloudy day, and there’s no rain
Do they feel hunger or thirst

Through bonafide blizzard conditions
We’ve held on through it all
I’m comfortable with our position
