WHY THIS QUASI-WESTMARCHES CAMPAIGN?
As a way for people in The Rules Lawyer (TRL) Discord to play Pathfinder 2e together. Elements of a Westmarches format are borrowed to allow both GMs and players to organize and play PF2e games without having to commit to a longer adventure.
THE PREMISE
There is a hub of gates and an as-yet-undefined area around it. Behind the gates, GMs can run their own campaign settings. Golarion is one such setting. At the same time, all characters are PF2e mechanically, with no homebrew. The abilities that different deities give their followers still work in “the Westmarches area.”
At this time, we are simply trying to facilitate the GMs running what they want, and many adventures will lie beyond the various gates. We will “draw in” the town and area around the hub of gates, and there may be more connective tissue between adventures, as need arises and inspiration strikes.
I really like Evil Sean’s proposal of how, in-world, this “adventuring system” operates:
“My narrative linkage for this campaign is the Endless Tale Tavern. The ETT has numerous openings into structures across Golarion (or whatever game world we see fit) and as such can be used as a fast transport system to take adventures from one place to another. Various agents (the GMs) hire adventurers to jobs. The tavern serves as a hub for all business adventure related. Agents have standard adventuring contracts that dictate all treasure recovered by the party will be handed over to the agent for a standard sum. Violation of this agreement causes the adventurers to be banned from the tavern.”
