Fallout 76 is a post-apocalyptic multiplayer online role-playing game developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. It is the newest installment in the Fallout series (ninth overall) and was released on Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on November 14, 2018.
In 2022, it was announced that developers Double Eleven and Sperasoft would be co-developing Fallout 76 alongside Bethesda, especially with content such as asset creation. Both companies had contributed to Fallout 76's development in this fashion prior to the formal announcement of the partnership.
Before the game was released, director Todd Howard explained how Fallout 76 at launch was intentionally not meant to be the final version of the game because it was meant to be an evolving live game that would receive many updates. Todd mentioned it could be a very different game ten years in the future. Fallout 76 receives free seasonal updates via patches and new content is planned for at least roughly 2027.
According to the game's designer Mark Tucker, Fallout 76 will eventually have its own "ending" of sorts with Mark stating, "We have a story in the game that we have always intended to tell over a longer time span.
