We always had the Warzone nuke event date being on or around April 21 or 22 because that's when the Season 2 Battle Pass ends and Warzone Season 3 starts. But we now have this tweet confirming that 1984 Verdansk is LIVE

We now have an official Warzone nuke event date. It always looked like the bombs would drop when the current battle pass expired but now we have an official date for the end. That's after weeks of teases like an exploding map Easter egg, messages about explosions in parts of the map, and the Containment Protocol Level raising as Zombies move around the map. You can also now buy Foresight at Warzone missile silo containment monitors, as well as other killstreaks, since they've been activated.

It all means that the Warzone nuke event start time is closing in fast and we'll finally discover if the the rumored new map, the Cold War Ural mountains, will take over, as well as well as what other changes might be on the way in Call of Duty Warzone. Here's everything we know about the Warzone nuke event and what's coming. What that is end actually involves we'll cover below but the short version is that zombies take over the map and missiles are sent in to wipe them out, and the map at the same time.

Spoilers: nukes. For what feels like forever the leaks have pointed to a nuke, or nukes, leveling Verdansk and clearing the way for a new map. As part of Season 2 three very suspicious Warzone Missiles silos have appeared, while several other Warzone bunkers have been shut. Season two also started with zombies actually spawning on the Verdansk map at via the shipwreck of the Vodianoy, before moving to the Prison, Hospital and so on - slowly moving around in triggerable events for players to try their luck for high loot gains. Then there's the actual missiles seen flying over Vedansk at the moment. Some just fly over, a few appear to have glitched and fly silently in to the ground without incident. There appearance, though, seems to show what the end will eventually look like.

Activision has hinted at something very final in a thank you to the community mentioning a "reckoning" for Verdansk. The same message also mentions the ship spilling it's "otherworldly cargo" as players "desperately attempting to contain this new threat". The message concludes that "Warzone may have to prepare for a threat never before seen in Verdansk".

The long held belief that zombies would overrun the map and cause its nuking is also backed up by datamined audio that gives us some idea of the what the final event will entail.

The key phrases in the audio are these:
"Stay alert you're getting close to a plague zone."
"This is our final broadcast."
"Verdansk is lost, end it."
"All teams need to exfil immediately, this is the final hour."
"Avoid the infected at all costs, don't turn into a zombie."
"We can't lose Verdansk, find those damn zombies. "
"Extraction cancelled, nuke inbound to Verdansk. You're on your own soldier."
It seems like these quotes could both be part of a Warzone Nuke Event to change the map, and also introduce a rumored Plague Mode where players try to defeat a zombie outbreak in order to exfil - fail and a nuke is called in. While some of the quotes support a game mode, the talk of losing Verdansk and the "final hour" suggest the first game of Plague Mode will be a guaranteed fail - one big zombie event that will see players battling zombies across Verdasnk before everything is nuked.

The line "don't turn into a zombie" also suggests that zombies will turn players rather than kill them. Whether this could be another Zombie Royale mode like we saw at Halloween remains to be seen, although the talk of plague zones suggests we might see something different.

Verdanks will be gone - that seems to be the main play for the nuke event. The Modern Warfare based Infinity Ward map you can see above will be wiped, and replaced with something from Cold War developer Treyarch. The main belief at the moment is that the new Warzone map will be 1980s themed, and set across Cold War's Ural mountains. That location has already appeared via some of the larger scale maps featured in Cold War's Fireteam and Outbreak modes. Even more interestingly, the Cold War Fireteam map Ruka has the file name "wz_forest", suggesting it could be intended as part of a larger map.

One of the more contentious and slightly more out there rumors is that this new map could house 250 players. It's not entirely clear where that figure's come from but talk that the new map has more Points of Interest has been taken by some as proof it's built for a larger player count. Warzone has had a 200 player mode before so it's not outside the realms of possibility. Although plenty of people think the player count is plenty high enough already.
