A first person POV Assassin's Creed with Bioshock like gameplay sounds good but just was not that much fun for me, see Mirrior's Edge argument in regards to traversing the world. The world itself I found to be very uninteresting and never got attached to any of the characters. The only person I did like I ended up killing at the end because of his spontaneous betrayal thanks to the way I was playing. The story itself is very predictable and linear. I think I was hoping for a more open world open-ended type of game. I did like the fact that missions let you approach them multiple ways and let you decide if you want to kill everyone or just knock them all out, but I just stopped caring somewhere after the third mission and initiated HALO protocol. The abilities are ok but the way you have to earn and unlock them is rather slow and the game basically forces you to replay it in order to get even a decent feel for all of them. The game is also super short, once again it leans very heavily on the whole try going through the level a bunch of different ways to see what's different, but that holds no appeal to me. It doesn't change the narrative at all expect the end level and ending, which I can just youtube.

I enjoyed the original on PC back in my youth. I really found the whole fog of war element, turn based army men atheistic, and base building to be really fun and cool. This game pretty much stays faithful to the old games expect not being able to have full control on how your base in laid out and having the aliens invade your bases. Which are small and reasonable concession in this day and age. It was also nice to play a turn based game since I haven't played one in a very long time. Of course being able to save anytime, anywhere, makes the game very accessible and ensured that I never had any lost time while playing. the game even lets you name your soldiers which, for whatever reason, I took very seriously and would get upset if they died Which meant I would play it safe with them, but then they wouldn't level up that much. That's why I loved that save feature. It let me be bold and have fun without worrying. The story is very basic and I would have liked a mode where its more open and not have the mandatory story missions interfering with my research and such. Of course I really enjoyed the whole managing the base 's resources and money allocation system. The game's overall look is more a kin to campy movies like Mars Attacks, or the Destroy all Humans video game series. Which is why I was hoping the game's tone would follow suit but is actually more serious than it needed to be. Overall I really enjoyed the game and will definitely play it again sometime down the line.
