I started playing Magic the Gathering back in the 90s when it came out, so I am used to the idea of opening a mystery container knowing that there's a rare waiting for me, possibly a shinny card, and with modern MTG there could even be a mythic rare. My family also celebrates Christmas, so waking up to mystery gifts on the 25th is another thrill. Real life loot boxes have been around for ages, but over the last decade or so, they have really swarmed the video game industry. The rise of mobile games and Free2Play games has been a big drive of this, but now full priced $60 games are fitting them into the mix. With the sense of presence and immersion that VR can provide, is there going to be another surge of loot boxes that are going to be more impactful on the release of dopamine while we anticipate opening our loot boxes?
