=========================

The mobile game Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers was originally developed in 2002 for BREW phones on a Motorola t720c by Ralph Barbagallo of FLARB, LLC (https://www.flarb.com/).

The game itself is a top-down, turn-based RPG. You control Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli and Theoden in battles that take you from the Plains of Rohan to the siege of Helm's Deep. To advance, you need to kill all opponents in battles and ensure that at least one party member stays alive.

The developer based the game mechanics off the Shining Force on the Sega Genesis\Megadrive.

Despite being the second film, it was the first game in the Lord of the Rings series for mobile phones. The first film of the series came out when the mobile games market did not exist yet.

According to the developer’s, the game had to be written in just five weeks, as he was contracted by the publisher and owner of the license, JAMDAT Mobile, just five weeks before the movie was coming out.

Later, the game was ported to Java 2 ME, which port was not made by FLARB.

Contractually, he was also supposed to do sequels to the game, but none were contracted, and Return of the King mobile game was made by another developer, ImagineEngine, Corp. (and also published by JAMdat Mobile).

Although development of the sequel did not work out, the experience let FLARB self publish on Verizon, and eventually release several games.

He also wrote a book which became the book of choice for all the BREW game developers for years to come.
