Following World War 2 and the development of nuclear technology, atomic energy became a part of everyday life: nuclear powered cars, cheeky robot butlers, and arm computers… but prosperity always comes at a price.
As natural resources were consumed to their limits, world conflict escalated in the resulting Resource Wars. The United States invaded Mexico, the U.N. disbanded, and Tel Aviv was decimated by nuclear attack. With nuclear disaster looming, the United States government commissioned Vault-Tec Corporation to build 122 fallout shelters. Unfortunately, Vault-Tec planned hideous genetic experiments for the inhabitants of several of their vaults.
Meanwhile in the Massachusetts suburb of Sanctuary Hill, you were living an idyllic life with your spouse and infant son when reports of nuclear strikes sent you running to nearby Vault 111. Taking neighboring cryo-chambers, you bid your spouse and your son sweet dreams of a better world.
Two hundred years after the attack, you've awoken from your cryo-chamber, the sole survivor of Vault 111, with just one goal: Find your missing son. Search the Commonwealth for clues as you help other survivors build settlements to fight off mutated ghouls, irradiated monsters, and the technological might of The Institute.
