I spent about 6 hours writing out all this technical stuff as to how we could actually combat bots in Lost Ark, but I think just getting to the point and covering what's happened regarding the VPN ban and bots in general, and explaining how far a conversation between a CM and the community would go for everybody. Like a Zeals or Stoopz stream with Roxx to discuss...
Right now, we all know the bot issue is out of control. My low pop server has a queue at the moment. We need to work together as a community, with community managers etc, and let them know in a constructive way that this issue needs to be curbed because it's starting to retroactively affect people using VPNs. The VPN enforcement is only in place to help combat bots, but it has done nothing because the truth is that the majority of bots aren't on VPNs.
No MMO will ever have a bot free world, but the degree to which you can prevent them is nowhere near where it can, or should be. I don't, and never have used a VPN to connect to this game. Despite it being against ToS, I truly believe (and data does as well), that VPN blocking did next to nothing except anger a large potion of the player base. You still see all the same bots in all the same locations. Let's have a conversation about how this can be prevented, and how we can get our servers looking more like KR/RU servers have been.
