Lotus and Lyric, a First Crack Friday Early Look!
3On the world of Alphon, in a small town between two large, storied nations, lives a young maned named Marques. Marques works on a farm alongside his father, although on some days, his father gets called to go on patrol. It's an unremarkable life in an unremarkable town, working away while dealing with the occasional monster. At least, until today.
The Lotus and Lyric prototype is a tactical RPG by Nate the Bard made with RPG Maker, and it is a really, really fun and interesting game, even in this very early stage of development. The combat is easy to understand and moves quickly, the characters already have distinct personalities being shown, the music is used well to set the right atmosphere (which is always great whether it's original or not :P), and I really like the artwork that's being used. There are some small issues with the grammar and the text in the dialogue boxes is hard to read, but those are the kinds of things I'd expect to see in a prototype and should be easy enough to fix later on. I'm excited to see what kinds of abilities each of the characters will get later on, too, that could add a lot of depth to the game. I would like to be able to have some ability to control where the characters are going instead of it moving straight from story scene to battle to story scene to battle, but again, that's something I'd expect to be developed more later on as locations and story things get fleshed out, so I'm not even bothered about it much. Even if it just comes down to being something that asks me if I want to visit shops and check gear and abilities before moving on, I'd still play the game through.
