LOVE! Pt1 by Adam II | 23 TYPES OF LOVE +8 Ancient Greek (AGAPE EROS LUDUS PHILEO PRAGMA STORGE..)
4LOVE! x31! The Ancient Greeks had 8 types of love languages; Agape, Eros, Ludus, Phileo, Pragma, Storge, Mania & Philautia. But they only scratched the surface! Today I'll explain Aristotle and Plato's 6 Greek styles, 4 in the Bible and by CS Lewis plus my personal addendum so far, which I’m happy to say includes an additional 23! Let's talk about love.
I say “so far” because I believe there may be more, but this is what I have found based on my own Christian observations and experiences. You’ll be pleased to know that each is different to the original eight by the Greeks. I must say, I was a bit disappointed when I revised these recently in preparation for this video, because I could see several that were missing straight away. Any of you who have attended Bible college or Ministry School would have been through these eight already, but for those unaware I will briefly show them now and then go through my additions.
#1 is Eros, which is a physical type of love
#2 is Agape. For some reason the ancient Greeks put lots of different types of love in to one, Agape, which I don’t agree with, and I’ll go through this in a minute.
#3 is Philia, a brotherly love
#4 is Pragma. This is an enduring love, like when being married.
#5 is Ludus, which is playful behavior between couples, like flirting
#6 is Philautia, a self love and in worst case narcissism
#7 is Storge, meaning familiar love. The close bonds we have between family and friends
And #8 is Mania (or what I call, Crazy Stupid Love), which, as the name sounds, is obsessive.
Now, like I said, I didn’t agree with Agape, because it did include several which were completely different to one another and needed to be separated. I’ll explain why in further detail in a minute, but for those of you who can’t wait, I’m going to be very generous and quickly list my additional fifteen types of love now. Some of these are obvious, but others will require explaining. They are, after correcting #2 Agape,
#2 Unconditional – like a parent loving their child no matter what
#9 Divine – like the love Jesus and born-again Christians have for the Father
#10 Utopia - that being the charitable and compassionate love of humanity and future of mankind
#11 Green – the love of nature
UPDATE!
#24 Harmonious Love (Agape) - a temporary state of true Agape like when we get saved which cannot last because real life disrupts it, hence why it needs to be split up into other categories. One or more of these will be disrupted (even Jesus' Agape love was out of harmony several times because of the Pharasees). We then love in some ways and not others, so we can't call it Agape anymore.
Okay, those are the Agape corrections which are all independent of one another. Now for the rest:
#12 True - Whoops!
#13 Diligent
#14 Fool’s (or Idolatrous) – the only one on here that’s false but people still do it, hence the name Fool’s
#15 Intellectual – this is a work in progress which I’m still trying to explain, but I’m pretty sure it exists
#16 Truth ('the love of the truth')
#17 Patriotic
#18 Fervent/Passionate, which can lead to #9, Love Divine, or, if we’re not careful:
#19 Fanatical – a dangerously obsessive love similar to Mania but this time for a cause
#20 Subconscious – loving without even realising
#21 Withheld – a stubborn love that refuses to show itself
#21 Cute – the playful kind of love of babies and animals separate from Ludus which is flirtatious with a partner
And finally, the ultimate and greatest love of them all:
#23 Supreme! – Can any of you guess what this one is? Who’s love haven’t I mentioned yet? You got it, and that’s Love Supreme baby. No ancient Greeks are going to generalise that.

#26 Oxymora/Paradoxical
#27 Sympathetic
#28 Mourning
#29 Admirable (Role Model)
#30 Immoral/Abominable
#31 Demented
