immediately after regaining my footing in the game it sends it's next curveball at me of triggering the rebel human colony event which gives the ai +100 aip if i don't rescue them in time :l

fortunately i was able to find them very quickly deep in ai territory and with my super weapon able to carve through the minimal defenses the ai had in between me and the colony so i am now close enough to be able to save them in time

oh and along the way i managed to find another broken hive golem super weapon for me to snag :O , this bodes well for the success of my campaign indeed....
