The thieves guild is a rather nice mechanic in the Heroes series. Here you can enlist the thieves guild to spy for you and give you information on the other lords and ladies of the land. The more you have, the more info you get. Most of it is of little value, but knowing who is the strongest hero can lead you to pick your fights more careful and might have saved countless lives in my armies already.
