Now, my recollections of the blur of sight and sound that is Lumines isn't much to talk about after the fact, but I definitely remember this one. It's got a ridiculous title, oddly specific and still completely extraneous and unrelated to the nature of the game, and it's definitely the first time in the course of the game that the music has turned towards the decidedly unsettling.

Challenge Mode
Skin 10: Dark Side beside the River

I mean, I noted that there was something "off" about "Just..." (besides the name, anyway), even though it was fairly easy on the ears, but carried with it an almost contrarian undertone that kept me from feeling at ease. But this one is something else entirely.

The scary part is that I kinda like it. All of it. I wouldn't listen to it for kicks or anything, but the act of playing this phase of the game definitely shook me up. Of course, my play field can't possibly agree after all this, and the sudden increase in tempo from the previous song also happened to have caught me in a bad way at rather the wrong time.

Timing your clears with the full sweeps of the clear line, especially when the special pieces doesn't get any less important just because the pace has picked up (or slowed down), after all, and you can see that I ran face-first into the line at all the wrong times.

Of course, it's obviously more pressing to consider all my missed last-moment moves and swaps rather than blaming the superficial aspects of the game. Hopefully then it won't come as any surprise that what's a bad situation built up in one skin will remain a problem in the one that follows.
