The combat proven M270 MLRS is a 227 mm rocket artillery system manufactured by Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control. The Multiple Launch Rocket System is a high mobility automatic system based on an M270 weapons platform which fires surface-to-surface rockets and the Army Tactical Missile System. The 9A52-4 Tornado on the other hand, is Russia's newest universal multiple rocket launcher. It was designed and manufactured by Motovilikha plants and NPO Splav as a lightweight and universal version of the BM-30 Smerch, dubbed 9A52-2.
